Close all applications. 2. From the Autodesk Web site (http://www.autodesk.com), download the Volo View installation program. 3. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions. Warning: When you install Volo View on Windows 2000, you may get this error: "There is not enough space available on the disk." If you know there is enough space, the computer may have a registry error created by some installations of Windows 2000. By the time the Volo View installer displays the error about insufficient space, the Volo View installer will have automatically corrected the registry error. You will need to cancel the installation and restart the Volo View installer for the correction to take effect. =================================================================== To Uninstall Volo View 1. Choose the Start button (Windows taskbar). 2. On the Start menu, choose Settings > Control Panel. 3. In the Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, on the Install/Uninstall tab, double-click Volo View in the list, and follow the onscreen instructions. =================================================================== View Autodesk Inventor 4 Files If you want to open an Autodesk InventorTM 4 file, you must first install Autodesk Inventor 4 Stand Alone Design Tracking. To install Autodesk Inventor 4 Stand Alone Design Tracking: 1. Confirm that the current release of Volo View is installed on your computer. 2. In the Support section of the Autodesk Web site (http://www.autodesk.com/support), in the Downloads area, do a keyword search for Autodesk Inventor 4 Stand Alone Design Tracking (also known as Design Assistant). 3. Download the installation program. 4. Double-click the icon of the program you downloaded. 5. Unzip the program. Important note: If you want to view DWF files, you should uninstall Volo View before doing step 6. 6. Double-click the Setup.exe file to install Autodesk Inventor 4 Stand Alone Design Tracking. 7. If you uninstalled Volo View in order to view DWF files, reinstall Volo View now. Important Notes about Inventor 4 files: (a) Even though the Volo View Help states that Markup commands are not available for Inventor 4 IDW files, you can use Markup commands for these files from the Markup menu and the Markup toolbar. Information about markup is available in the Volo View Help system (Help > Volo View Help). On the Contents tab, choose "Marking Up Drawings." (b) If you open an IPT or IAM file, but you cannot see the file's objects, change the size of the file's window (maximize the window, for example) to make the objects visible. =================================================================== View Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 4 or AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2 Files If you want to view an Autodesk® Mechanical Desktop 4 file or AutoCAD Architectural DesktopTM 2 file, you must first download the object enablers. To download the object enablers: 1. In the Support section of the Autodesk Web site (http://www.autodesk.com/support), in the Downloads area, do a keyword search for Autodesk Object Enabler Comparison Chart. 2. On the Autodesk Object Enabler Comparison Chart, choose the enablers you want to download based on the software listed in the chart's "Can Be Installed On" column. =================================================================== General Issues 1. If you encounter long delays opening a drawing that contains TrueType fonts, it may be because the text in the TrueType font has a Width factor other than 1.0 or an Oblique Angle value other than 0. To avoid the problem, change the TrueType fonts to SHX fonts or change the Style to have a Width of 1.0 and an Oblique Angle of 0. 2. If you have trouble viewing DWF files in Internet Explorer and you recently uninstalled AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT probably left a registry entry on your computer. Do NOT delete the entry described below if you still have a version of AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT installed. Only delete the entry if you uninstalled AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT, and you currently have neither AutoCAD nor AutoCAD LT on your machine. If AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT left an entry behind when you uninstalled AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT, delete the entry by deleting the following key with the Registry Editor: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\Model/vnd.dwf 3. For the Tangent, Perpendicular, and Centers snaps to work on markups, the Geometry snap option must be selected in the AutoSnap dialog box. =================================================================== Print and Plot 1. The F1 shortcut key does not display Help in the Plot Module. To access Help, choose Help in the Plot dialog box, or choose Volo Plot Module Help Topics on the Volo Plot Module Help menu. 2. For custom SHX fonts to display correctly, you need to add them to the Volo View "fonts" subdirectory. 3. When Volo View is installed on Windows 2000, you must reboot before running Volo Plot in order to get the "Autodesk Shared" directory into the path. 4. The first time you try to plot using an HP plotter driver, you may encounter a message telling you that you need to update your HP plotter driver and that the drivers are available on either the Volo View CD or from the HP Web site. There are no new drivers on the Volo View CD; you must get these drivers from the HP Web site. 5. When you print on an 8½" x 11" sheet and leave the linetype pattern scale at 1 (the default), markups look out of scale on the screen but print correctly. If you increase the linetype pattern scale, markups look correct on the screen but print incorrectly. 6. Changes in print scale may cause existing markups to be incorrectly scaled and positioned when the file is reopened. Selecting Refit from the View menu may correct this problem. 7. Volo View, not Internet Explorer, is preferred for printing DWG, DXF, and DWF files. However, if you embed Volo View in an HTML page, you can print from the browser using the shortcut menu.
